Wiluna C4 Iron Ore
Client: Wiluna Mining Corporation
Overview
MCS provided drill and blast services for the Wiluna C4 Iron Ore Project, supporting grade control and production requirements within a remote iron ore mining environment.
The project required safe and accurate blast execution to support efficient material movement, minimise dilution and maintain production targets while complying with strict regulatory and site requirements.
Scope of Work
Production drill and blast operations
Grade control blasting
GPS survey and blast set-out
Explosives management
Licensing and compliance
Site supervision
Our Solution
MCS deployed experienced shotfirers, drill operators and supervisors supported by T45 drill rigs and GPS-controlled surveying systems. This combination enabled accurate drilling, improved burden and spacing control and reliable blast execution against project designs.
A strong focus was placed on grade control outcomes, helping improve ore and waste separation while reducing dilution and maintaining blast movement control within targeted mining areas.
MCS also managed explosives magazines, licensing and associated compliance requirements, ensuring explosives were handled, stored and used in accordance with all regulatory obligations and site procedures.
The project was further supported by onsite explosives facilities, improving operational flexibility and reducing reliance on external logistics in a remote operating environment.
Outcome
MCS achieved blasting production rates of up to 300,000 BCM per month while maintaining a strong focus on safety, compliance and operational performance.
Key outcomes included:
Up to 300,000 BCM blasted per month
Accurate GPS-controlled drilling and blasting
Improved grade control outcomes
Full explosives compliance management
Safe and efficient remote operations
The project demonstrated MCS's capability to deliver high-volume drill and blast services while maintaining quality, safety and production reliability in challenging remote environments.
